Qualifications:
* BS + 15 or MS/PhD +10 in R&D for glass, ceramics, whitewares, metal glazing, or fiberglass
* Education in Material Science, Glass or Ceramics Science
* Experience leading a team of R&D Scientists
* Leadership abilities- can bring a team together and guide direction of the research
Duties:
* Manage resource allocation of individual contributors across portfolio of R&D projects
* Provide subordinates with guidance in developing and executing project plans
* Participate in defining new test protocols and equipment needs
* Manage the recruitment, performance, growth and development of staff scientists
* Direct nominal level of exploratory research to feed pipeline of concepts/ideas for future development projects and maintain thought leadership in field of glass science.
* On-going assessment of relevant benchmarks and creating white papers on key topics
* Establish technical expertise in the role in supporting portfolio of R&D projects and represent discipline on technical advisory bodies for the firm
* Represent discipline in assessing 3rd party partners in collaboration
* Represent discipline in IP peer reviews and participate in defining IP strategy
